LUSK RANCH

Thoroughbred Training Facility

Treetopper Rob, runs smooth as silk...

There is a saying in Horse Racing.

You're not just racing a horse, you're chasing a Dream!  Well, with Rob it's like he is chasing that dream. He is so smooth, like he was born to run. Watch him...

Here is a still picture of the next pass around. Juan took him around the shorter dirt training track this morning. He moves smooth as silk.

But look, all four hoofs are off the ground. What??

Horses being horses...

Thought some of you might enjoy watching more of the mares & fillies running and playing around the front pasture. The beautiful paint filly you see leading the pack is Sarka, K's paint filly we bought as a  barrel prosect after the fire. She is so fast we are thinking about entering her in a QH/Paint race or two.

They just love the green grass, fresh air, and still getting their special mix of feed in the evening. Boy, what a life!

More exercising video...

Thought we would post more video of exercise training. There has been so much rain here daily that it has been hard getting consistent pics & video in this weather. So here is a video of Missy, she is a two-year old filly, she has been in training approx. 1 month. That's her in the next frame with all four feet off the ground.

AM Exercising - Everyone is going good...

All horses in the Barn are training fine every morning. Nate Hight, owner of Mr. So & So, brought his son and grandchildren out Sunday morning to watch SoNSo go around the track. Nate was impressed by the way he went around, and loved Rob. Rob looks like he has been training for months, not weeks. He is training wonderfully. I have posted a video of each of the "trainees" from Sunday morning on our YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/luskranch

Subscribe to our YouTube Channel to get updates when we post new videos. We will continue to post videos on our site but can post more and use less web storage space using YouTube.

Here is a picture of Missy from her exercise time Sunday morning. Look closely, I enlarged it, you will see that all four of her feet are all off the ground. Cool!

More patience with Rob...

We are so proud of Juan. We see every day the passion he has for horses. He uses that passion along with lots of patience to work with each horses individual personality and attitude. We posted a couple more videos of Juan on Rob working in the round pen on YouTube. Check out the video links...

It's amazing that Juan has only worked with him 10 days. Let us know what you think? luskranch@yahoo.com

Lusk Ranch is now on YouTube!

Lusk Ranch is finally progressing into the new world of internet technology. Ok, YouTube is no where near New but it is to us. The first person to show K a video on YouTube was Dr. Jay Turk, our family doctor. He showed Kimmie and K one of those strange "Trunk Monkey" commercials. Thanks, Doc!

But seriously, we thought if all those goofy videos can be posted there and watched by millions, then why can't we use their storage space to post and store our videos of training and working with our horses. I will post the really good videos directly on this site but we can post more on YouTube. Plus they have the possiblity of being viewed by millions! Really?

We will post links to videos here and on the home page when new videos are posted. Thanks again for everyone's support and interest. It's those thoughts, prayers and messages of encouragement that keep John and K going through the extremely rough and trying times!

There are several ways to find us on YouTube. You can search for Lusk Ranch, Thoroughbred horses, horseracing or just watch here for direct links.

Training TWO by TWO

For anyone who trains horses, you know that it is great getting to work horses two at a time. Jesse, Juan's brother, came up this weekend to see Juan and help finish constructing the stalls. Jesse rides too! Juan and Jesses took the horses out on the track this morning. It is great training the horses to work two at a time on the track. Here are a couple pics of them going around the track.

Jesse, in helmet, riding Jenny's Treetopper and Juan riding Covell Road (in blinkers).

I bet Jesse's legs will be hurting later!

Juan & Jesse, neither Jenny or Covell Road wanted to be in the rear!

Official Works...

John & Juan left Lusk Ranch at 3:15 am Thursday (9/9) morning hauling two horses (Covell Road & Talula Mula) to Lones Star Park, Grand Prairie, to get official works in them so that they would be ready to enter in races at Retama Park, San Antonio. There is an interesting story about the morning but that you will have to get first hand from either John or Juan. But the good thing is, both horses left Lone Star with official works and both arrived back home safe & sound.

Covell Road worked Four Furlongs in 48:20 & Talula Mula worked Five Furlongs in 1.01:40. To see how all the horses worked go to http://www.equibase.com/static/workout/LS091009USA-EQB.html        Both the works were the fasted in there length for the day. So at least proof that we are moving in the right direction.

Also, stalls are coming!! Before the rain started, we got a couple of stalls up and working on the remaining. Hopefully, baring any inclement weather, we should have 10 stalls up by the end of the weekend.

Mom and Olivia have arrived home and are taking a few days to rest with Dad while Emma and Abby spend those days following Papa around the ranch! Congratulation Jade and Jimmy. We love you!!

Jade and Jimmy McGaw are the proud parents of a beautiful BABY GIRL at 8:17 am, this morning (Monday, August 10, 2009). She was 6 lbs. 11 oz & 19 inches long.

We received a call around 7:15 am this morning from Jimmy that it was time and they were going to the hospital. We were getting up, moving around and making plans to head to the metroplex when Jimmy called about 8:25 am. I could hear her screaming in the back ground. Jimmy said she was perfect and was being cleaned up. Jade's friend Emily is visiting from Washington and is getting on a plane this afternoon. I guess the new little girl just had to say HI to Emily before she left. LOL! Check back soon for pics and more info.
